My first analysis: Porsche
Why Porsche?
The first deeper analysis I am preparing at the moment is the well-known sports car manufacturer Porsche. Porsche was and is one of the most famous and valuable car brands around the world. With all its tradition and powerful ICE cars, the transformation towards a sustainable car brand is in my opinion quite hard - and more interesting for me to analyze.
Goal
First of all, I want to understand Porsche in general. I want to get an overview of its operations and their impact on the environment. I especially will focus on carbon dioxide emissions, water consumption and energy consumption. The detailed factors and KPIs I use to analyze Porsche will be released with the analysis.
Also, I want to understand certain trends and developments as an “outsider”. As an outsider, I can only rely on public available data and information, which will make the accuracy of this analysis harder to a certain extend. However, since I do not plan (at least yet) to analyze single business processes on a micro-level, for now the public available data and information is enough. In case some data or information is missing, I will make assumptions based on other available information (like from competitors) or based on my experience. If I make assumptions, I will explain in detail why I made these assumptions and how they affect the analysis.
Once I finished my first deeper analysis of Porsche, I plan to update this analysis once a year. This should give me and you an even better understanding over time.
Approach
At the current state, my approach is straight forward:
Define the KPIs, assumptions and factors which influence the system (Porsche)
Already build the first, simplified simulation model. This simulation model will contain the most important KPIs and business processes.
Add further data and information to the model
Collect experiment data
Visualize data
Analyze the data and the simulation model
Write a report
Maybe I will change my approach during the process. I’m not sure yet. Anyway, you can be assured that once I completed one step, I will let you know about it and share my insights in detail.
Tools I will use
At this moment, I plan to use the following tools:
Excel (as a database, summarize data, simple calculations)
Word (yes, it is still a tool😁; writing summaries, my analysis etc.)
Camunda (creating BPMN diagrams for certain business processes)
AnyLogic (modeling, running experiments, understanding Porsche better, visualization of the system)
Power BI (visualization of data)
Currently I don’t use “real” databases for data (yet). However, I will use “real” databases and additional tools in my next analysis.
So please feel free to add a comment or write me a message if you can recommend me alternative tools or tools which will help me with this analysis or other ones.
